The tech world is abuzz with anticipation for Google’s upcoming offerings, namely the Pixel Fold and the Pixel 7a, both of which are expected to be unveiled at the Google I/O 2023 event scheduled later today. The Pixel 7a, the much-anticipated successor to the Pixel 6a, is creating a considerable stir thanks to a tantalizing array of rumors that hint at a promising value-for-money smartphone.
While official confirmation on the Pixel 7a’s specifications remains elusive, unlike its counterparts, the Pixel Fold and the Pixel Tablet, we do have a rich tapestry of rumors and leaks that paint an exciting picture of what Google might deliver this time.
It’s important to note that none of these rumors have been officially confirmed. However, if the unveiling does occur at Google I/O 2023, we can expect a comprehensive reveal of the Pixel 7a today (Wednesday, May 10) at 10am PT / 1pm ET / 6pm BST, or at 3am AEST on May 11 for those following along from Australia.
Before the big reveal, let’s delve into the top seven reasons that make the Pixel 7a a highly anticipated release.
Swift Availability
Rumors indicate that the Pixel 7a may be available for purchase immediately after its announcement, with no need for preorders. Retailers are reportedly well-prepared with the Pixel 7a stock, offering a contrast to the expected wait for the Pixel Fold.
Consistent Design
Leaked images suggest that the Pixel 7a will follow the familiar design language of Google phones—rounded edges, soft colors, and a distinctive camera bar. This design consistency reinforces the Pixel’s recognizable visual identity.
Refreshing Colors
Despite the familiar design, the Pixel 7a is expected to introduce new color variants. Leaks suggest an Arctic Blue option, a unique shade in the Pixel lineup, along with a vibrant orange. The standard white and black (or gray) options are also expected, albeit with possible limited availability.
Solid Performance
The Pixel 7a is rumored to house the same Tensor G2 chipset found in the Pixel 7 and the Pixel 7 Pro. Leaked benchmarks suggest that the Pixel 7a could potentially outperform these flagships, boasting a significant performance upgrade from the Pixel 6a, thanks to an alleged 8GB of RAM.
Face Unlock
Rumors suggest that the Pixel 7a might offer a face unlock feature, an option previously omitted in the A series. This feature, standard on iPhones and reintroduced in Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro, would be a welcome addition if true.
Mid-range Camera
To achieve the mid-range price point, the Pixel 7a may sport a cost-effective dual-lens 12MP+12MP rear module, contrasting with the 50MP+12MP setup on the Pixel 7. This setup mirrors the Pixel 6a on paper, but Google’s software processing could still deliver exceptional photo and video results, as seen in previous models.
Higher Price
With inflation affecting nearly everything, the Pixel 7a is also expected to be more expensive than its predecessor. Reliable sources suggest a price of £449 in the UK, a £50 increase from the Pixel 6a. If the trend follows globally, we could see a price tag of around $500 in the US and $843 in Australia.
All these rumors surrounding the Pixel 7a will be put to rest if the phone makes its anticipated debut at the IO 2023 today. Stay tuned for the 7 biggest reveals expected at Google IO 2023, and we’ll keep you updated with
